Dear Friends,

Greeting of peace and solidarity.

The Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP), established in 1974 by the Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines (AMRSP) will be celebrating its 35th anniversary in January 2009 with the theme “Defending Human Rights, Seeking Justice, and Building Peace in the Midst of War and Corruption.”  To commemorate this momentous occasion, TFDP will be re-launching the Museum of Courage and Resistance.

The Museum of Courage and Resistance (The Martial Law Museum) was conceptualized with the context of seeking justice for the victims of the martial law regime in mind. It was set up by the TFDP to serve as a constant reminder of sensitive and courageous vigilance, so that no repeat of the atrocities and repression under martial law, in any of its forms, could ever occur again.

The Martial Law Museum was first opened to the public on September 20, 1999, the eve of the 27th anniversary of the declaration of martial law by the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos. The ceremonial opening was done by cutting barbed-wire instead of the traditional ribbon by Bp. Emeritus Antonio Fortich, D.D. (+), Sr. Mariani Dimaranan, SFIC (+), Bp. Julio Labayen, OCD, DD, and Sr. Crescencia Lucero, SFIC. All have been staunch human rights defenders since martial law times.

The Martial Law Museum however was moved to another location when TFDP transferred office.  But now, it is back in its original home at #45 Saint Mary St. , Cubao, Quezon City .  Through the help of students from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, the Martial Law Museum underwent various improvements and modifications.  On January 14, 2009, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., in remembrance of TFDP’s 35 years of existence, it will relaunch the Martial Law Museum.

We invite you to join us commemorate TFDP’s anniversary as we recall the dark years of Martial Law and pay tribute to its heroes and martyrs.  Attached is the draft program for your reference.

We are looking forward to having the honor of your presence during this special occasion.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

(SGD.)
Sr. Crescencia L. Lucero, SFIC
Executive Director
